jgnat, thanks for your input (and i remember you well from my former incarnations here on the board), i never heard of that granfalloon, but it sounds interesting. if i understand that right it's pretty much the "us vs. them" mentality?
but take dogrulz. it may also be a "i vs. the rest" mentality.

well, i know there are all flavours of christians. i'm talking about those who say that heaven is some sort of reward. if heaven is some sort of reward, every single one of those christians should go around with their knives and stab people to death, because that probably means salvation (just as suicide is a free ticket for JWs to go do paradise).
and they should condone abortion too of course. why are they against it, when they say at the same time that babies who died before birth are going to heaven or whatever else place, but they don't go to hell.
two of my SILs lost a baby and i know several more who lost one. i'm not sure if i'm right about this, but JWs don't really believe in the resurrection of lost babies, and if they do i can't imagine how that would take place. but if god does not resurrect unborn babies, abortion is not wrong in any way.

anony mous, i understand what you are saying, but i think i mean something differnt. it's not the door-to-door knocking i'm talking about, it's the "i am right, and i'll tell you until you believe it too" kind of thing. it's something i noticed years ago when i started let go of the JW religion. even though i went to vanilla christian to agnostic to atheist, i always struggled with some stuff i learned as a JW (and i make myself believe it's really not my fault, as i was born in...): what i think is the right way, if you don't think that way, you are wrong. and that's the hard part to get over with. because it's something way deeper than religion. that's a guess...

it makes sense to defend your current position to some degree, as there should be some reason that you believe what you believe right now. but one should also - and especially someone who left the JW or any other mind controlling religion, but that's something that doesn't apply (yet) to dogrulz - be concious that one does err, and not too seldom. having that in mind, it's probably easier to "live and let live"?

when you already are examining it all, why stop at leaving the JW mindset? might as well go all the way and realize that there's noone who could possible know more about god(s) than yourself. what, god didn't talk to you? then why do you think god talked to other people? are they better than yourself? nah... biblegod says he wants to be tested. go ahead and test. i wonder if you get any response...
